BnB Memory Lane Part Ichi.

When and where I am fortunate enough to have 3rd parties share my music, I am also gifted with the curse of reading what other people think about what I created. This post isn’t about being butt-hurt over negative comments, I just have something to say about BnB which should exist on the internet somewhere for anyone who wants to know it.

The second Bombs and Bottles song ever written was a song called “Money” (featured on the GammaMax EP). And without making myself feel like a dinosaur, that means it was written somewhere around December 2009 and January 2010. Sometime almost a year ago now, I thought it was a good idea to make “EDM” remixes of songs off Pop and Roll…(a bad idea). The goal here was to try breathe some new life into old BnB songs and connect new fans with old material (didn’t work). The result of this experiment however was a song called “Money 3.0”, a bro-stepped out version of the BnB classic “Money”. When we sent the track out to all the blogs who supported “The Heist” and “Tonight”, we were met with an overwhelmingly negative response and the song got little to no initial exposure. Below is a direct quote in response to the track,

- The “Money 3.0” track has production value, but I can’t say I find the lyrics to be impressive. For this reason, we will not be posting on the (Blogs Name Not Public).

I find this to be mildly fascinating because it says SOMETHING about the way we listen to music and/or how our musical tastes effect our perception. What it says exactly I’m not really sure…and I am definitely to lazy to articulate it right now, but I will elaborate the best I can.

BASICALLY, and this may shock you, Money is the perfect BnB song, I would go as far as to say it may even be the “best” BnB song. Why is “best” in quotations? Because the previous statement only applies/makes sense if you are aware of what BnBs original mission statement was. Money was the perfect BnB track because it was a catchy fun pop tune you could hear on the radio…DRENCHED IN SATIRE. I mean dude, are you supposed to take the lyrics seriously when I refer to Money as FORMAGGIO? The answer is NO…BUT…you wouldn’t think twice if Lil Wayne did right? And that’s the god damn point, the lyrics are fucking ridiculous. It’s a song that has no right to be enjoyable, you wanna hate this track, but unfortunately you can’t get the hook out of your head…you’re jamming to it in your car right now, and you’ve been jamming to tracks like that on the radio for the past 5 years! I played a joke on you with a song that could make a shit-ton of Money…about making Money.

Original BnB fans somewhat understood this. I can’t say that everyone understood that the track was satire, but I can say with confidence that nobody cared the lyrics were campy and ridiculous, and they accepted it as the pop tune it was with enjoyment. However, when I take those same lyrics and melodies which make the original track enjoyable, and put them over Bro-Step, there’s a 75% chance the listener responds with something like this direct quote off YouTube - “This isn’t that bad. One of the very VERY few dubstep songs that I like. To bad the lyrics are shit.” -

Why does the satire still not pop through, why is all the fun gone? I sure as hell don’t know…and because the people who listen to money don’t listen to money 3.0, and the people who listen to money 3.0 don’t listen to money, I guess we’ll never have an answer.
